The College Access department at Washington State College of Ohio is home to Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound, two federal TRIO grant programs 100% funded by the U.S. Department of Education. TRIO programs are designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds (income eligible/first-generation) who have the potential to succeed in higher education.
The grant programs provide academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourage them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education. These services include: tutorial services, career exploration, aptitude assessments, college exploration and exposure to college campuses, mentoring, participant/parent workshops, educational services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of students, and cultural and educational trips.
