MARIETTA, OHIO —Washington State College of Ohio will hold its 50th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at the Marietta College Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. Chuck Sulerzyski from Peoples Bank will serve as the commencement speaker and Mackenzie Smith will deliver the student address.
Sulerzyski is the President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Peoples Bank. He joined the company in 2011 and has overseen the growth of the bank from $1.8 billion to approximately $8.5 billion. Prior to joining Peoples, he was employed as president of the Great Lakes region for KeyBank. Sulerzyski’s career in financial service spans more than 40 years, 25 of which were spent in various senior-level financial services executive roles at Marsh & McLennan, The Provident Bank, Fidelity Investments, and with Banc One Corporation. Sulerzyski earned his BA in Economics from New York University and his MBA in Marketing from Fordham University Graduate School of Business.
Smith is graduating with an associate degree in business management, an administrative assistant certificate, and a small business entrepreneurship certificate. He is an adult learner who enrolled at WSCO during the pandemic in an effort to make the most of his time during the quarantine. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and was selected as the August 2021 Student of the Month. A 1994 graduate of Warren High School, Smith now lives in Little Hocking with his wife Angie and their daughter Brook. He is employed at Hino Motors in Mineral Wells, West Virginia as a Production Control Specialist. His future plan is to continue to advance in his career with Hino.
