MARIETTA, OHIO (Dec. 18, 2017)–Washington State College of Ohio’s (WSCO) December student of the month, Jacob Wagner, is capitalizing on his knack for numbers and just balanced the books on his accounting degree while working toward doubling his assets with a degree in business management.
In high school, Wagner didn’t know what he wanted to major in when he went to college. He knew he was very good with numbers and math, so accounting seemed to be a logical choice. But he was also inspired by his father who has owned several successful restaurants over the years and liked the idea of being an entrepreneur, so business management was another viable option. Rather than choose one degree over another, he decided a double major suited his dreams and would ultimately give him the foundation necessary to work in any type of business setting.
Nominated by his advisor Brad Merritt, a WSCO associate professor, Wagner has a reputation for being an overachiever both in and out of the classroom. “Jacob excels at everything he does,” said Merritt. “And he has proved to be a good tutor to many of our first-year students in the program. Moreover, he was just named the President of the Alpha Rho Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa for his participation in the Constitutional Day Panel Discussion and his fundraising efforts on behalf of our chapter. In fact, we recently had a really successful Lunch with Santa event that was the result of Jacob’s hard work.”
Reflecting on the success he had in earning his first degree, Wagner shared a bit of wisdom for future students. “I encourage all students to strive to do the absolute best they can. We only get one time to play this game called life, so make it a memorable one.”
Wagner just completed his accounting degree and is set to finish his business management degree in fall 2018. Following graduation, he plans to transfer to Muskingum University and obtain bachelor’s degrees in accounting and business management.
