MARIETTA, OH (January 23, 2018)– The Evergreen Arts & Humanities Series at Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) in collaboration with the Washington State Foundation and the Schwendeman Agency, Inc. announce a free showing of Disney’s 2017 live-action musical “Beauty & the Beast.” This event is sponsored by Dr. Frieda Owen.
The film will be shown on Saturday, February 3, at 7:00 pm in Graham Auditorium at WSCO, located at 710 Colegate Drive, Marietta, with doors opening at 6:30 PM. Admission is free, but seating is limited.
The critically acclaimed film, “Beauty and the Beast” stars Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Prince/Beast. It is a retelling of Disney’s 1991 animated classic with refashioned characters for a contemporary audience. This film is a musical romantic fantasy film directed by Bill Condon from a screenplay written by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos, and co-produced by Walt Disney and Maneville Films. The film itself is based itself an adaptation of Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont’s eighteenth-century fairy tale. The audience will enjoy memorable songs from the original score as well as several new tunes.
“Beauty and the Beast” premiered at Spencer House in London on February 23, 2017, and was released in the United States on March 17, 2017. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, with many praising Watson and Stevens’ performances as well as the ensemble cast, faithfulness to the original animated film alongside elements from the Broadway musical, visual style, production design, and musical score. The film grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing live-action musical film, and making it the highest-grossing film of 2017 and the 10th-highest-grossing film of all time.
The tale is about Belle, a bright, beautiful, and independent young woman who is held prisoner in a castle by a beast. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast’s hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.
