MARIETTA— Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) has been awarded the Short-Term Certificate Program Grant by the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE). The $78,000 grant will provide need-based financial aid to in-state students who are enrolled in a program that can be completed in less than one year.
Short-term certificates and credentials have been identified by community colleges and technical centers as a key Ohio priority. WSCO plans to utilize the funds to provide additional financial support to students enrolled in its new Evening Edvantage initiative, specifically the Accounting and Automation Technician programs.
“We are committed to offering more short-term training that meets the workforce demands of our industry partners,” said WSCO President Dr. Vicky Wood. “We’ve strategically aligned this grant with Evening Edvantage because it allows us to support people in our community who want to expand their skills that will open doors for a new career while providing them the flexibility needed to juggle their many responsibilities.”
Evening Edvantage is designed to accommodate the busy schedules of working adults by conveniently scheduling classes only on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. In addition to the financial aid provided by the Short-Term Certificate Program Grant, students enrolled in Evening Edvantage for the Fall 2022 semester are eligible to take two classes for free as well as receive free child care. Moreover, both the Accounting and Automation Technician programs have stackable credentials built-in the curriculum that will give students industry-recognized skills and make them more employable.
