MARIETTA, OHIO — Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) and the Peoples Bank Foundation announced the official opening of the newly named “Peoples Bank Foundation Student Market,” just in time for National Food Bank Day.

The Market, which is set up to resemble a grocery shopping experience, provides a variety of nutritious and accessible food options at no cost to WSCO students and their families.

This initiative, generously funded by Peoples Bank Foundation, reinforces WSCO’s commitment to fostering a supportive campus environment. “We are excited to partner with Peoples Bank on this vital resource,” said Megan Marion, WSCO Foundation Director. “Food insecurity continues to be a significant challenge on our campus, with 54% of our students unable to afford groceries for their families. This partnership allows us to show that our students have not only our strong support but also the support from our community in addressing this critical need.”

Peoples Bank and Washington State have had a strong partnership for several years, now further united in their commitment to addressing food insecurity in the community. “Peoples Bank has made it a priority to fight hunger across our footprint. No one in our community should have to wonder where their next meal will come from,” said Staci Matheney, President of the Peoples Bank Foundation. “By working together, we can ensure that WSCO students have one less thing to worry about and can focus on their education. Together we will build success and ensure a brighter future.”

“On behalf of our entire campus community, we graciously thank Peoples Bank for their invaluable support of our students,” said Marion. “Their generosity will leave a lasting impact for not only our current students, but for generations to come.”

To support the Market’s future and sustainability, the WSCO Foundation continuously accepts monetary donations, as well as non-perishable food and personal care items.
