“Whether someone is unemployed or underemployed, we want to help them explore their options to find good-paying jobs in our region. There are a variety of pathways that students can choose, including both associate degree and one-year certificate options as well as flexible course formats like in-person, online, and evening. This event will help kick-start the conversation about college in addition to connecting students with ways to pay for their education.”

MARIETTA, OH — Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) has announced a new open house event that will introduce prospective students to the degrees and certificates that lead to the region’s most in-demand jobs. The Degrees To Dollars event on June 29 will feature information about in-demand careers in the Mid-Ohio Valley, the type of training required for these jobs, and funding resources to help pay for this training.
WSCO College Pathway Advisor, Chey Parsons, said Degrees To Dollars will focus entirely on in-demand careers and the education pathways at WSCO that lead to these jobs. “Whether someone is unemployed or underemployed, we want to help them explore their options to find good-paying jobs in our region. There are a variety of pathways that students can choose, including both associate degree and one-year certificate options as well as flexible course formats like in-person, online, and evening. This event will help kick-start the conversation about college in addition to connecting students with ways to pay for their education,” Parsons explained. “It gives us an opportunity to show potential students how education can directly impact wages.”
In addition to the availability of a wide array of college resources, several community partners will be on hand, including Washington County Department of Job and Family Services, WorkForce West Virginia, and Building Bridges to Careers. These organizations will provide additional insight on funding options available from local and state agencies.
Faculty from WSCO’s programs that support the area’s most in-demand jobs will be in attendance, including: Accounting, Auto/Diesel, Business Management, Chemical Dependency, Chemical Operator, Criminal Justice, Cyber Security, Health Information Management, Massage Therapy, Medical Laboratory Technology, Nursing, Peace Officer Basic Academy, Process Technician, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Robotics & Mechatronics, and Social Services.
The event will be held in the Commons, a centralized space located in the Main Building on campus on Tuesday, June 29, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. To register for this event, visit https://www.wscc.edu/event/degrees2dollars/, or contact Chey Parsons at 740.568.1953 for additional information.
