MARIETTA, OHIO — West Virginia high school students have a new opportunity to earn college credit before graduating. Washington State College of Ohio has announced a new early college option specifically for WV residents in grades 10-12. The program, called Bridge to College, offers special tuition scholarships to students in any of the 12 reciprocity counties, including Brooke, Hancock, Jackson, Marshall, Ohio, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wetzel, Wirt and Wood Counties.
The Bridge to College Program is the first opportunity specifically for WV high school students to take classes at WSCO. This new program complements an already robust list of early college options available to Ohio residents. In fact, Washington State currently serves nearly 800 high school students through Ohio’s College Credit Plus (CCP) program.
The new program gives students an opportunity to earn early college credit that they can use towards both high school graduation and the completion of their college degree or certificate. After high school graduation, students can choose to complete their degree at Washington State or transfer their credit to the college of their choice.
“The new Bridge to College Program is exciting because it gives WV students an opportunity to expand their pathway options,” said Amanda Herb, vice president of institutional advancement. “Students earning early college credit can accelerate their degree completion and save money. We have a well-established early college program and are looking forward to expanding our work with students throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley.”
Students enrolled at WSCO through the Bridge to College program can take courses for just $49 per credit hour (after applying the $100 per credit hour scholarship). Sophomores can take one class per semester while juniors and seniors can take up to two courses per semester. The program allows students to choose from any of the courses on the college’s schedule, including face-to-face or online courses, as long as the student meets course placement and prerequisite requirements.
